In the late 1990’s, a group of land trust leaders, all residents of the Sierra Cascade region, came together to bring more attention and resources to support the conservation of land in the region. The Sierra Cascade Land Trust Council, formed in 2003, traces its roots to this group. Today, we represent a broad coalition of 18 land trust organizations working in the Sierra Cascade region. Our members include regional, statewide, and national organizations that frequently partner on projects with an impact on the entire region—involving our watersheds, forest lands, ranches, and farms.

The Sierra Cascade Land Trust Council works with state, regional and local partners to protect our important landscape resources, resulting in tremendous benefits to those who live and recreate in the Sierra Cascade region. Together, we have accomplished these milestones:

• Protection of more than 160,000 acres of land
• Creation or protection of 200 miles of trails
• Opening up of 26,000 acres for public enjoyment
• Protection of 190 miles of river and stream frontage
• Protection of more than 98,000 acres on working ranches and farms
