Truckee Donner Land Trust LogoWhen the beautiful Coldstream Valley near Donner Lake was about to be lost to logging in 1990, a small group of passionate hikers founded the Truckee Donner Land Trust (TDLT), raising $150,000 to purchase 160 acres in the Valley.

Today, the mountains, canyons and rivers that make the Truckee Donner region a great place to live, work, and play, continue to face threats from unwise growth and development—spilling over into treasured natural areas.

In the past 15 years, the Truckee Donner Land Trust has protected over 11,000 acres. TDLT has accomplished this by working with landowners, government agencies, and like-minded conservation organizations. The Trust creates win-win solutions for the public and property owners that ensure continued recreational access and protect lands for future generations. TDLT has set a goal to protect over 35,000 acres in the coming years.

The Truckee Donner Land Trust characterizes its work as a race against unprecedented growth in the Truckee Donner region, but with support from its neighbors, members, and partners, expects to protect cherished lands forever—before it’s too late.
